Here's a term you may not have explored deeply while in clinical training: "private equity". The goal of private equity, as the name states, is to invest in private companies (as compared to public companies, like those on the stock exchanges) to provide financial stability and to help them grow and develop. Over the last 10 years, we've seen more and more private equity companies make investments into healthcare, leading to consolidation into larger and larger national brands. Doctors of Physical Therapy is one of these growing national brands of Physical Therapy clinics based in the Midwest. They've grown substantially since being founded in 2005, buoyed recently by an investment in private equity firm SV Health Investors in 2020. (October 2024)
