Here's an interesting stat from Hazel Health: "1 in 5 of children with mental, emotional or behavioral disorders receive care from a specialized mental health care provider." That's a pretty big gap, and it makes sense that extending services to environments where kids are frequently located (eg schools) could help fill the gap. With the explosion in telehealth services, Hazel Health seems to have hit on something really, really big. For example - did you know the state of Hawaii doesn't require state-licensed therapists to reside in the state? Seems like a perfect place for telehealth (and Hazel is, indeed, serving students in Hawaii). And the cherry on top? Hazel reports over half of its providers are providers of color, and over 30% speak a second language fluently. Pretty cool. (May 2024)
