The Opioid Epidemic is a public health crisis with a highly effective but underutilized clinical intervention - millions of Americans are physically dependent on Opioids but only 10% of those likely to have OUD actually access treatment. Bicycle Health addresses this gap by maximizing accessibility, affordability, and overall quality of care by enabling highly qualified clinicians to reach patients broadly and efficiently through our online platform.
The Recovery Coach provides peer recovery support services to a panel of assigned clients with opioid use disorder. This position acts as the primary contact point between the client and their Bicycle Health care team through a combination of video conferencing, phone and chat interaction. The Recovery Coach meets with clients on a monthly basis, documents the visit, provides peer support and reviews recovery goals. The National Institute of Health (NIH) estimates that over $7mn Americans are living with opioid use disorder (OUD) today, yet in 2021 only 1 in 5 got the treatment they needed. That's an absolutely gigantic gap. Enter Bicycle Health, recognized as a Time100 Most Influential Company of 2022, with its virtual OUD treatment program. However, one thing to note: in March 2024, the Union of American Physicians and Dentists (UAPD) commented on a report that Bicycle Health laid off 15% of it's staff. (May 2024)
