Here's an alarming stat about mental health readmission rates from a 2022 study from the International Journal of Mental Health Nursing: Unplanned hospital readmission rate is up to 43% in mental health settings. The average readmission rate across general hospital settings? 14%, according to a 2018 study from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. That's a 3:1 higher occurrence of readmission for mental health patients than the general hospital population.
