US maternity care is at a crossroads: mortality rates in the U.S. are two times those of other developed countries, and labor and delivery (L&D) units in hospitals are traditionally less profitable than other services making them susceptible to cost cutting (or worse - elimination). Enter Diana Health, combining virtual and in-person care by partnering with hospitals to redesign maternity care workflows. What Diana Health is doing is both needed and exciting - and they've raised nearly $50mn as of 2023 to evolve US maternity care...a big task, and one they just might succeed in. (November 2023)
