One of 2023's newly crowned HealthTech unicorns (a company with a valuation exceeding $1Bn), Headway's growth has been massive (as has the larger societal acceptance of digital mental health solutions). They've seemed to thread the needle between matching patients with mental health providers that through in-network insurance benefits despite overall reductions in investment across the behavioral health sector. According to Rock Health, investors poured $2.1 billion into behavioral health companies in 2022, a 56% decrease from the $4.8 billion raised in 2021...time will tell if Headway is the exception to this trend.
