Description Prepares medications for inpatients, outpatients and employees as per departmental policies and ensures verification of each transaction by a pharmacist prior to dispensing. Responsibilities Compounds sterile and non-sterile products as per protocol, ensuring final verification by a pharmacist. Dispenses (with pharmacist supervision) and maintains accurate records of dispensing controlled substances, tax-free alcohol and investigational new drugs. Demonstrates ability to operate required equipment, e.g., unit-dose repackaging, total parenteral nutrition compounder, laminar flow hoods, etc. Ensures an adequate inventory of medications and supplies is maintained. Routinely checks for and removes expired medications from inventory. Audits controlled drug disposition records for patient care units and reports discrepancies and unusual use patterns to a manger or director. Maintains an accurate, current census, including cassette bin labels, for all assigned areas. Returns reusable medication to stock before the end of the shift.
