Description Responsible for Radiation Safety Office activity, including: calculation of radiation dosage estimates and shielding requirements, monitoring of radioactive material usage in laboratories, shipment, waste management (controls and disposal), calibration of instruments and measuring devices, patient surveys and personal badge monitoring. Participates in compliance initiatives, record reviews for the PET Isotope Laboratory and staff radiation safety training. 24 hour on-call availability is required in the event of occasional emergency patient coverage on site or at outlying locations. Responsibilities 1. Responsible for inspection of laboratory radioactive materials, involving appropriate controls, pickup, disposal and documentation. Reviews new applications for proposed usage of radioactive material. 2. Participates in the conduct and documentation of radiation safety surveys and compliance audits and initiatives. 3. Calibrates instruments and radiation measuring devices, and maintains the personal badge monitoring system. Performs shielding surveys for new installations.
