    Job Description

    Safety Specialist

    The Environmental Health and Safety Department (EHS) performs environmental and occupational health and safety consulting services for the New York Presbyterian Community. The EHS department manages disposal of hazardous chemical and medical waste; evaluates occupational/environmental health and safety issues; coordinates and provides various safety trainings for staff as required by law; performs environmental, occupational, and safety audits; advises units on occupational and environmental safety issues; reviews new construction and renovation designs for environmental/occupational health and safety; provides assistance with asbestos management. This position supports 20,000 staff with respect to environmental/ occupational health and safety issues. Assists in hazardous waste management and disposal, ensuring hazardous materials are properly manifested, labeled, stored, and transported according to OSHA, EPA, and NY DEC/NYC DEP regulations; assist with spill cleanup.
