Most Americans have heard about the impact of opioids on society, but here's a crazy stat about access to care from the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA): In 2021, an estimated 2.5 million people aged 18 years or older in the U.S. had opioid use disorder in the past year, yet only 1 in 5 of them (22%) received medications to treat it. Simply put, there's been rapid growth in opioid misuse, and a widening access gap in treating patients struggling with opioid addiction.
