Something that's more common in the startup world than clinical world is the idea of "contractors" (or "1099s") in contrast to "employees" (or "W2s"). Two Chairs believes it's high quality matching, retention, and outcomes is a direct result of it's preference to hire employees, rather than contractors. Their CEO, Alex Katz, explains it this way: "... the primary difference between [Two Chairs] and other virtual behavioral health platforms, including Talkspace and Teladoc-owned BetterHelp, is that Two Chairs employs the “vast majority” of its therapists while most competitors contract with their clinicians. [This] enables us to select therapists that we think are really high quality, and then we can train them on how to use measurement-based care.” (July 2024)
